  • Time to examine GLOBAL SUPERPOWERS!
    • Warm Up:
      1. What characteristics does a country need to be powerful?
      2. Which countries do you believe today are superpowers? Why?
    • As we watch this thing jot the following down in your notebook:
      • Create bullet notes for WHY America is a Global Superpower
      •
    • We know America is a global superpower (duh) but who else fits that mold?
      • You and a partner will receive a country and a giant sheet of paper.  Your job is to decide if it is a GLOBAL SUPERPOWER based on data that you locate/set criteria.  For each try to locate both the specific number -- we'll rank them against each other in a minute:
        1. Human Development Index (HDI)
        2. Exports
        3. Imports
        4. Military expenditure (as % of GDP)
        5. KOF Index
        6. Energy consumption
        7. Population Growth
        8. Net Migration rate
      • Once we are done, we'll do quick gallery walk to figure out where these rank in relation to the others and find out who are global superpowers and who is perhaps a rising superpower.
        • China
        • Japan
        • Russia
        • India
